Dallas first appeared on CBS Apr. 2, 1978, and continued for 10 seasons until May 1988. It resurrected the prime-time soap opera that had last been seen in the 1960s series Peyton Place. It was ranked #1 in 1980 with a rating of 34.5, followed by #2 Dukes of Hazzard with 27.3 and #3 60 Minutes with 27.0. The third season ended with the shooting of JR, and the second episode of the fourth season revealed Kristin as the one who did it, with a viewing audience share of 76% of all televisions in use the night of Nov. 21, 1980.
