135th Convention - New York, USA

Hotel Deadline Extended!

AES 135th Convention

AES 135th Convention
Location: New York, USA
Dates: October 17–20, 2013

We have good news - we've been able to extend the hotel reservation deadline for the AES Headquarters Hotel to October 6th. That's right... you now have until Sunday to book a room at the Marriott Marquis right in the heart of Times Square in NYC - we've negotiated a far lower rate than what you'll see on normal travel websites.

* Reserve your room today! http://www.aes.org/events/135/hotels/

Still Time to Register!

We've also been able to extend the registration deadline for getting your badge - it has been extended to October 14th. After that, prices go up and are only available on-site at the Javits Center. As an AES member you qualify for the lowest price on an All Access badge, or if you only want to visit the exhibition and special events then you can attend those for FREE with an Exhibits Plus badge (if you register in advance).

News from Bob Moses, AES Executive Director

This years AES Convention is shaping up to be one of the best ever. Of course, you might expect me to say that no matter what, but consider this:

Jim Anderson and his convention committee are back with another Technical Program chock full of amazing events, literally bursting at the seams (we ran out of rooms at Javits!), including new tracks in Archiving & Restoration, Sound for Picture, and Recording & Production to complement the Tracks in previous conventions (Product Design, Game Audio, Broadcast & Streaming Media, and Live Sound). Hidden within this massive program of workshops, tutorials, research papers, special events, and so on are exciting sessions such as the sound team from television's "Deadliest Catch" talking about how they record amazing audio in the world's most harsh conditions. Jimmy Jam and Bruce Swedien are coming to tell us about their secrets in the studio, in addition to a strong program of Platinum Mastering and Engineering events.

Complementing the Technical Program are a number of events put together by our partners. The Project Studio Expo, in partnership with Sound On Sound magazine is back on the convention floor with two days of free training for people who work in small studios. Systems Contracting News (SCN) magazine is hosting the Systems Sound Symposium in the convention floor with a variety of workshops that explore topics of importance to installers. And the DTV Audio Group is putting on a great forum on audio production and distribution in an evolving television delivery landscape (are we going backwards from surround sound to mono compressed streams now?). The Recording Academy's annual Grammy SoundTable event will explore how Phil Ramone did his magic in the studio with an all-star panel. SPARS is back with their mentoring program, and on and on.

This year we introduce a new program called the Knowledge Center in which businesses give seminars on topics of importance to them – product training, round table discussions, and so on.

And we are celebrating passage of the latest AES standard – AES-67, which promises to finally bring interoperability to the disparate networked audio systems.

Pre-registration numbers for the convention are extremely strong and we are excited about having a fantastic event. I hope everyone can make it!
