Entries to the 130th AES Recording Competition in London are now being accepted. Deadline is April 15th, 2011.

The Student Recording Competition has been redesigned, please read carefully through the complete rules and policies before sending in your submission. Make sure your AES membership has been renewed recently. You will have to register for the Convention program before you can sign up for the competition.
Here are the major changes at a glance:
Awards
Finalists will not be ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd anymore, but rather awarded a Gold, Silver, or Bronze certificate of quality. This award system is meant to make the Student Recording event less of a head-to-head contest and more of a merit-based, collegial competition that recognizes outstanding student recordings.
New Categories
1. Traditional Acoustic Recordings
Category 1 is suitable for recordings of acoustic instruments, vocalists and ensembles recorded live in natural acoustic settings such as performance halls, churches, theatres, soundstages, pavilions and similar environments.
2. Traditional Studio Recordings
Category 2 is suitable for recordings that are created in a recording studio or similar facility using multitrack studio techniques and technology.
3. Modern Studio Recordings
Category 3 is intended for multitrack studio projects that do not meet the restrictions of Category 2. All options are allowed with respect to sound sources, recording techniques, creative production, editing, processing and mixing.
4. Sound for Visual Media
Category 4 is for any type of sound recording created to support a visual experience. The category is open to all visual media, including narrative and documentary video and0film, advertising, video games, signature graphics and image spots.
Documentation and File Submission
In addition, all contestants must submit appropriate electronic project documentation with their audio mixes. The specific documentation may vary for each project, but at minimum it must adequately describe and document the recording and mixing processes for the project.

We want to encourage you to participate at this unique opportunity and,
...share your work with other students from all over the world,
...promote your projects to representatives of industry-leading companies,
...discuss your ideas with professionals in research and development.
The Student Science Spot will be conveniently situated in an exposed area where you can provide visitors with a live demo as well as with paper documentation or media presentations. Yep, it is just like you would have an own company booth at the exhibition. However, presented work has to be 100 percent non-commercial at the present point in time.
