Project scope: This document specifies a recommended interface for the serial digital transmission of two channels of periodically sampled and linearly represented digital audio data from one transmitter to one receiver.

AES5-R: Review of AES5-2008: AES recommended practice for professional digital audio - Preferred sampling frequencies for applications employing pulse-code modulation
Project scope: This standard covers the use of certain preferred sampling frequencies in applications employing pulse-code modulation where there is a need for interchange of high-fidelity digital audio programs with a minimum of transcoding complexity. This standard is not concerned with sampling frequencies for narrow-band audio applications, such as voicequality transmission links, or with processing devices in which both the input and the output signals are in an analog format, even if such signals are ultimately used for interchange of program.

AES6-R: Review of AES6-2008: Method for measurement of weighted peak flutter of sound recording and reproducing equipment
Project scope: This standard specifies the "weighted peak" method of measuring flutter of sound recorders and reproducers for normal audio usage. For special purposes--high speed duplicators, different speeds in recording and reproducing, etc.--special procedures not described here should, if required, be used.

AES7-R: Review of AES7-2000 (r2005): AES standard for the preservation and restoration of audio recording - Method of measuring recorded fluxivity of magnetic sound records at medium wavelengths
Project scope: This standard specifies a method of measuring the recorded flux per unit track width, called fluxivity, of a magnetically recorded sinusoidal test signal at medium wavelengths for all magnetic sound record formats, by using a high-efficiency magnetic reproducing head. It also specifies the equipment needed to implement this method.

AES10-R: Review of AES10-2003: AES Recommended Practice for Digital Audio Engineering - Serial Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI)
Project scope: This standard describes the data organization and electrical characteristics for a multichannel audio digital interface (MADI). It includes a bit-level description, features in common with the two-channel format of the AES3, AES Recommended Practice for Digital Audio Engineering - Serial Transmission Format for Linearly Represented Digital Audio Data, and the data rates required for its utilization. The specification provides for the serial digital transmission over coaxial or fibre-optic lines of 28, 56, or 64 channels of linearly represented digital data at a common sampling frequency within the range of 32 kHz to 96 kHz having a resolution of up to 24 bits per channel. Only single-point to single-point interconnections from one transmitter to one receiver are supported.

AES11-R: Review of AES11-2009: AES Recommended Practice for Digital Audio Engineering - Synchronization of digital audio equipment in studio operations.
Project scope: This document provides a recommended practice for manufacturers and users of digital audio equipment aimed at promoting economical and efficient methods for synchronizing interconnected digital audio equipment. The provisions make use of the two-channel digital audio interface standard for professional use, AES3. It is expected that the recommendations will be adopted for synchronizing all other digital audio interfaces. The document addresses two groups of parameters. The first concerns the performance requirements for the successful interchange of digital audio data between equipment (5). The second concerns the performance requirements for the regeneration of clocks used for analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog, conversion (6).

AES14-R: Review of AES14-1992 (r2003): AES standard for professional audio equipment - Application of connectors, part 1, XLR-type polarity and gender
Project scope: This standard shall apply to three- and five-pin circular connectors, commonly and generically known as XLRtype, used for the interconnection of all categories of sound system components for professional audio, commercial, recording, broadcast, and similar applications, regardless of function, type, or level of the signal. It specifies the application and polarity of analog signals for these connectors. This standard does not pertain to the dimensions of the connectors.

It covers analog and digital tape and includes tape made for audio, video, instrumentation, and computer use.

Project scope: This standard provides a means to ensure that correct polarity is maintained throughout an audio production chain by determining the polarity of the signals at the various interface points between different items of equipment, in particular at the acoustical, electrical, mechanical, digital, and magnetic ports. The standard intends that each item of equipment comply separately with the polarity requirements for the input and output signals.

AES27-R: Review of AES27-1996 (r2002): AES recommended practice for forensic purposes - Managing recorded audio materials intended for examination
Project scope: This standard specifies recommended practices for safekeeping, conveyance, inspection, description, and labeling of audio recordings offered as evidence in criminal investigations, in criminal or civil proceedings, or in other forensic applications. For the purposes of this document, magnetic tapes include audio recordings and video recordings based upon magnetic transcription principles, regardless of the physical size, packaging, recording format, recording type (such as analog, digital, frequency-modulation), or recording speed of the tapes. Special practices for nonaudio portions of such recordings are beyond the scope of this standard. This document does not cover analysis of magnetic tapes or other recording media for the purposes of authenticity determination, talker identification, copyright violation, enhancement of oral conversations or other signals, or otherwise characterizing signals recorded on such tapes.

Project scope: This document describes a format for the data to be transmitted to identify a number of popular audio bit-rate reduction techniques. This document also describes a mechanism whereby the data derived from the coded signal can be transported with the decoded signal so that the data may be recovered and used to aid a subsequent re-encoding process.

Project scope: To specify a bi-directional, point-to-point connection for up to 48 channels of digital audio in a variety of formats. The link uses a single Category 5 (or better) structured-wiring data cable, and is designed for use in a studio environment. The system uses the 100Base-TX physical layer of Fast Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) to transfer framed audio data. Audio synchronisation is maintained by transmitting an audio clock signal in parallel with the audio data utilising available signal pairs on the cable.

Project scope: This information document provides suggested guidelines for four extended-term storage environments for archives that contain a variety of recording media, based on the corresponding ISO storage standards for those media. Whenever possible, the storage environments in the ISO storage standards should be followed. This technical report does not replace these ISO storage standards. In addition to environment recommendations, those standards also include other vital information pertinent for the long-term keeping of recording materials such as inspection, housing, and handling guidelines.

AES-X074: Recommended Practices for Internet Audio Quality Descriptions (IAQUAD)
Project scope: Prepare AES documents to provide descriptor guidelines to rate the audio quality of Internet transmissions. The guidelines for Internet Audio Quality Descriptions (IAQUAD) will be based on specific criteria that can be efficiently measured by audio manufacturers. These criteria should also yield consistency across multiple tests for any given system. The focus of the project is on rating the audio compression aspect of Internet audio systems. Tests related to packet loss and other Internet anomalies are not included. An ongoing component of this project may maintain, within the rules of AESSC, an information clearinghouse for issues related to Internet audio quality. This information resource can include, without endorsement, the results of test conducted according to these guidelines.
