The St. Louis Regional section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Monday July 11 at 6:30 pm at CJ Muggs in Webster Groves. CJ Muggs is located at 101 W Lockwood Ave, Webster Groves, MO 63119.

We had a great “in person reunion” dinner/meeting in May, and are looking forward to talking audio and catching up with even more of our friends at the Monday July 11 gathering. All kinds of opportunities and activities for AES members are available around the world, and we’ll talk about some of those along with how we in St. Louis can plan to help make our section even more valuable for our members here at home. Student AES members are welcome to attend, as we always extend an invitation to them for any member meeting or event.

After the brief business portion of the meeting, Vice-Chair Josh Harris will moderate a discussion that will dive deeper into our last few topics, from backup strategies to handling technical issues to thoughts about Mixerman’s talk. Always something to learn. Please mark your calendar and join us.

Thanks and stay cool 'til then!

After the business portion of the meeting concludes, we will spend a few minutes discussing our provocative meeting topic: backups and archiving. Past Event: Regular Meeting and Returning to Normal Soon

July 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Location: Zoom

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday July 12, 2021 at 7pm

Many thanks to Bob Horner for hosting the annual BBQ June 27 in his expansive Maplewood facility and providing all the food, refreshments, and plenty of space to relax and enjoy our first in-person event since March 2020; it was a great success. Everyone was happy to get reacquainted and learn more about Ironman Sound's pivot to thrive during the pandemic by providing professional virtual meeting services, and their preparation for a return to live event staging. Great attendance on a rainy Sunday night, and the fun lasted well into the evening. Special thanks to Central Region VP Ian Corbett for flying in from Kansas City for our event. We all appreciate his friendship and support.

The meeting July 12 will be virtual, but everyone has shown they are eager to return to in-person meetings, so we’ll be discussing moving our September meeting back to a venue along with more options for live activities going forward as we get back to normal.

AES membership isn’t required to log in to this event, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a pleasure.

Contact a section officer for login info. Thanks, and we'll see you there!

Past Event: Recognizing Audio Graduates, Presentation "Moving Forward & Post-Pandemic Pivots: Managing A Successful Audio Business."

May 10, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Location: Zoom, Login info in description

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

Speaker(s): Brian (Bt) "Gibbs," Skyline Entertainment & Publishing/Tool Shed Studios

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday, May 10, 2021, 7pm CT.

Every Spring, the St. Louis AES invites all graduates of audio programs to join us to be recognized for their achievement and eagerly welcomed to our industry via the Audio Engineering Society. This is a terrific opportunity to network with established audio professionals and make new friendships for the future.

This year, students are graduating into the new normal we are all experiencing as audio careers adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic’s long-term effects. Our Spring AES meeting will be full of great information for starting, maintaining, and adapting an audio venture.

Former AES San Francisco Chair Brian (Bt) Gibbs, from Skyline Entertainment & Publishing/Tool Shed Studios will be generously sharing his presentation “Moving Forward & Post-Pandemic Pivots: Managing A Successful Audio Business.”

The presentation was originally designed for new recording studios and record labels, but with so many audio engineers having to pivot in this post-lockdown era, it will also cover topics on right-setting your current business or reinventing your audio business.
  • accessing legal guidance
  • local support from your municipalities, state and national organizations
  • choosing an entity structure
  • basic accounting/bookkeeping/banking options
  • insurance considerations
  • building a team (inside or outside your organization)
  • production agreements (artists, work-for-hire, letters of direction)
  • copyright/patent
  • sync licensing
  • managing royalties… and more
AES membership isn’t required to log in to this event, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a great time!
