November 2021 Regular Meeting

November 8, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

Speaker(s): Jim Baldree, Re-Recording Mixer

Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday Nov 8, 2021 at 7pm.

The AES Fall Convention is now history, and we’ll report on some of the many presentations and workshops there. Re-recording mixer Jim Baldree has agreed to join us for our post-business meeting discussion. He’ll be filling us in on the ins and outs of some of the multitude of delivery protocols and mixing formats he encounters from mono to Atmos as he mixes major TV series for HBO, National Geographic, and Discovery among many others. This is an important part of professional audio-for-video work but rarely discussed in depth.

AES membership isn’t required to log in to the Nov. 8th meeting, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a pleasure.

Login info below. Thanks, and we'll see you there!

P.S.: Don’t forget our gear sale event that will come up right before the meeting at Webster University's Media Commons (Sverdrup, Room 112), on November 6th, from 10am-1pm. Webster is having their Gear Garage Sale the same day, so there will be plenty to look at, and people to talk to. Come on by!

Past Event: September 13 2021 Regular Meeting

September 13, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday September 13, 2021 at 7pm.

It’s been a busy summer for everyone, and changing conditions have delayed getting truly “back to normal.” Events Chair Josh Harris has been working hard lining up possibilities, and we’ll look forward to getting together in person for them in the coming months.

Meanwhile, let’s gather on our computer screens once again on Monday Sept. 13 for our bimonthly meeting to talk audio, events, projects, possibilities, and how we all can help each other grow through our AES section activities.

AES membership isn’t required to log in to this event, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a pleasure.

Login info below. Thanks, and we'll see you there!

Past Event: Regular Meeting and Returning to Normal Soon

July 12, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Location: Zoom

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday July 12, 2021 at 7pm

Many thanks to Bob Horner for hosting the annual BBQ June 27 in his expansive Maplewood facility and providing all the food, refreshments, and plenty of space to relax and enjoy our first in-person event since March 2020; it was a great success. Everyone was happy to get reacquainted and learn more about Ironman Sound's pivot to thrive during the pandemic by providing professional virtual meeting services, and their preparation for a return to live event staging. Great attendance on a rainy Sunday night, and the fun lasted well into the evening. Special thanks to Central Region VP Ian Corbett for flying in from Kansas City for our event. We all appreciate his friendship and support.

The meeting July 12 will be virtual, but everyone has shown they are eager to return to in-person meetings, so we’ll be discussing moving our September meeting back to a venue along with more options for live activities going forward as we get back to normal.

AES membership isn’t required to log in to this event, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a pleasure.

Contact a section officer for login info. Thanks, and we'll see you there!

Past Event: Recognizing Audio Graduates, Presentation "Moving Forward & Post-Pandemic Pivots: Managing A Successful Audio Business."

May 10, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Location: Zoom, Login info in description

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

Speaker(s): Brian (Bt) "Gibbs," Skyline Entertainment & Publishing/Tool Shed Studios

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is on Zoom Monday, May 10, 2021, 7pm CT.

Every Spring, the St. Louis AES invites all graduates of audio programs to join us to be recognized for their achievement and eagerly welcomed to our industry via the Audio Engineering Society. This is a terrific opportunity to network with established audio professionals and make new friendships for the future.

This year, students are graduating into the new normal we are all experiencing as audio careers adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic’s long-term effects. Our Spring AES meeting will be full of great information for starting, maintaining, and adapting an audio venture.

Former AES San Francisco Chair Brian (Bt) Gibbs, from Skyline Entertainment & Publishing/Tool Shed Studios will be generously sharing his presentation “Moving Forward & Post-Pandemic Pivots: Managing A Successful Audio Business.”

The presentation was originally designed for new recording studios and record labels, but with so many audio engineers having to pivot in this post-lockdown era, it will also cover topics on right-setting your current business or reinventing your audio business.
  • accessing legal guidance
  • local support from your municipalities, state and national organizations

  • copyright/patent

AES membership isn’t required to log in to this event, and students at any level are welcomed. If you’re interested in audio, please join us. It’s always a great time!

Past Event: May 4 AES St. Louis Virtual Meeting

May 4, 2020 at 7:00 pm

Location: Zoom

Moderated by: Bill Schulenburg

The St. Louis Regional (Professional) section of the Audio Engineering Society’s next regular meeting is Monday, May 4, 7pm CDT.

It’s still not advisable to get together as a group in our usual private room, so Treasurer Rob Schlette has arranged a Zoom meeting in which we can connect to conduct our brief business meeting and then share stories and solutions during this unprecedented situation. It should be a great way to catch up with each other and enjoy some sorely missed Audio Conversation. If it’s not convenient to get to a webcam, you can simply call in with an old-fashioned telephone to participate. Also, Vice-Chair Paul Hennerich will be feeding a facebook live stream of the interactive Zoom meeting to the "St. Louis Regional AES” facebook group page.

Here’s the Zoom Invitation with the information you’ll need:
