AES Colorado Events Announcements!

 Dear members of AES-CO,

As newly elected chair of your local professional section, it is with great pleasure that I join the executive board.  Thanks to all of those who took the time to vote and contribute.  The new board would also like to welcome Jeff Merkel as Chair of the Membership Committee.

We’ve already begun the hard work of putting on great events related to audio recording, production, and analysis and we look forward to announcing those to you soon. See below for the first few events.  In the meantime, follow and contribute to AES-CO through our various social media sites:

Many thanks to Leslie Gaston, Kevin Gross, and Lorne Bregitzer, who leave their posts as Colorado Section officers but will certainly continue to be involved.  AES-CO remains dedicated to bringing together the audio community from around the Front Range with great meetings and ‘hangs’.  We've already begun the hard work of putting on great events related to audio recording, production, and analysis; see below for the first few events. In the meantime…

Jeff M. Smith

Chair, AES-Colorado

Upcoming Events!

October Event Announcement:

The AES Colorado section is planning an informal gathering after the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) at 4:00 pm Sunday, October 16th, 2011.  The RMAF is an annual convention for manufacturers and enthusiasts  of high-end audio systems and related technologies.  The show runs from Friday, October 14th to Sunday, October 16th at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.  Exhibitors will have complete sound systems set-up in empty hotel rooms, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own audio sources and compare different components and systems.  The festival is organized in part by the Colorado Audio Society (not affiliated with the AES), and has a $10 entry fee per day ($5 for students).  Additional event information is at http://audiofest.net/2011/index.php

Local AES member and membership chair Jeff Merkel will be presenting a seminar on Ringing Out Your Room. Jeff's presentation is focused on measuring loudspeakers and small room acoustics, and interpreting and applying the results. Jeff's seminar runs from 2:30 - 3:30 pm on Sunday.  We'll be meeting at the hotel lounge afterwards to discuss the event and other audio-related topics.  Feel free to stop by even if you’re not attending the Fest.

Also of Potential Interest to AES-CO members:

The Rocky Mountain Audio Video Expo (AVX, formerly VidExpo) is coming to the Denver Crowne Plaza on October 19 - 20th, 2011.  The expo is kind of like a smaller-scale regional version of InfoComm or NAB, with many broadcast and commercial A/V manufacturers showing their latest gear. Registration is open to "trade professionals only," but if you are on this mailing list, you qualify! Registration is free in advance, but on-site registration and seminars cost more.  Additional information can be found at http://www.avxpo.biz/register/index.html

Note: This event is not affiliated with the AES.

November Event Announcement:

Join AES-CO on November 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm at a wrap-up event for the 131st Convention of the AES. For those of you unable to attend the convention held in New York during October, we will hold a meeting to summarize some of the fascinating happenings and key contributions from members of your Colorado Section.

This event will be hosted by the National Center for Media Forensics and the University of Colorado Denver at its 1800 Grant Street location in downtown Denver. Plenty of free parking is available in front and behind the building so come learn more about current AES events and support your local section. In addition to a look at exhibitors and papers, specific presentations will include:

Kevin Gross, Chair AES Technical Committee on Network Audio Systems

Recent developments in networked audio distribution including the AES X192 interoperability standard initiative

Recent developments in loudness standards and practice

Jeff M. Smith, Chair AES Technical Committee on Audio Forensics
