Report of the meeting of the SC-02-12 Working Group on Audio Applications of Networks of the SC-02 Subcommittee on Digital Audio, held online in connection with the 151th Convention, 2021-10-08.

The meeting was convened by chair Morten Lave.

The formal notice on patent policy was read.

The report of the previous meeting, held online, in connection with the 150th Convention, 2020-05-18, was approved as written.

The agenda was approved as posted.

In attendence were Richard Cabot, John Grant, David Andrews, Andy Rosen, Jeff Berryman, Morten Lave, Paul Treleaven, Junichi Yoshio, Peter Stevens, Al Walker, Oliver Chambin, Jim Meyer, Gints Linis, Ievgen Kostiuke, Kevin Gross, Andreas Hildebrand, Kent Terry, Simon Jones, Brooks Harris, Brent Harshbarger.

Projects assigned to this group but not mentioned here had no action requested or required - see www.aes.org/standards/meetings/project-status.cfm for details.

Open Projects:

AES67-R - Review of AES67-2018 , AES standard for audio applications of networks - High-performance streaming audio-over-IP interoperability

The draft revision has been on hold for a while as the focus has been on the Wide Area Network (WAN) related work. As a result a report (AES-R20-2021) has been produced and published.
With the report finished the group will refocus work on the revision. A review of the revision is in progress.
The goal for completing the revision is 2022.

AES70-1-R Review of AES70-1-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 1: Framework
AES70-2-R Review of AES70-2-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 2: Class structure
AES70-3-R Review of AES70-3-2018: AES standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture - Part 3: Protocol for TCP/IP networks

The revision of the 3 standards is still ongoing. The hope is to complete all three around Feb. 1 2022. Extensive enhancement are included in those revisions.

AES-R16 AES Standards Report - PTP parameters for AES67 and SMPTE ST 2059-2 interoperability

Update to remove offensive language, following similar work in AES67, partially done.

AES-R17-2017 (s2018): Standards project report - AES67 Interoperability PlugFest - London 2017

This report is stabilized, to be removed from active projects list.

AES-X242 Streaming audio metadata over IP

As reported at the last SC02-12 meeting the work was gated by SMPTE ST 2110-41. With a lot of progress in the SMPTE group the work has been able to continue. Both groups are working on finishing the drafts.
This groups work was complicated by some IETF references so currently wrestling with constraints.
As there are other standards gating the work of this group the target is late 2022.

AES-X243 AES70 Connection Management for AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30

The target is still 2022. This is gated by the main AES70 revisions. The term AES70-CM4 should be included in the scope.

AES-X251 AES74 Conformance Survey

The target and goal should be changed to 2022 and the Status should be updated to "On hold pending review of relevance".

AES-X252 AES70 Milan Adaptation

Nothing to report, awaiting draft from OCA.
The target and goal is April 2022.

Liaisons:

Liaison with MPEG (John Grant)

Not paying a lot of attention, nothing to report.

Liaison with mobile (John Grant)

As reported previously there are 3 universities that are currently conducting trials.
ETSI is currently working on 2 more documents. One on DECT2021 and the other on signaling.

Liaison with IEC62379-1 (Common control interface, orig. BBC project in 2004, ATM etc.) (Peter Stevens)

No further progress on the work required to move this IEC document to the unsupported state.

Liaison with ST 2059 (SMPTE) (Use of PTP for professional media sync.) (Paul Treleaven)

The ST 2059-1 / -2 have been published, the main changes are in relation to offensive language but also included is an update to a profile describing the compatible range of AES67.
The group is currently considering a further revision to the protocol suite. This would be to harmonize with IEEE 1588 version 2.1. Currently considering to leave the -2 profile as it is and create a -3 document but that is not decided as of yet.
The ST 2110 suite has been undergoing revision for a long time excluding -30. They are all ready for draft ballot period, expected next year.

Liaison with Avnu ProAV AVTP (Morten Lave)

Nothing to report.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be scheduled in conjunction with the AES 152th Convention, to be held May 2022 next year.
