Summary

On September 27th, the Mexico Section hosted a very interesting conference by Carlos Watanabe (Brazil) and Adam Pinch (USA), both experts in the broadcast market and currently working for Dolby Laboratories. They talked of the audio mix for HDTV: a very hot topic that gathered many professionals from the AES membership and the broadcast industry.
Our speakers thoroughly explained the basics and most important parameters of AC3, as a fundamental subject for a 5.1 mix to be broadcasted in HDTV format and to maintain quality all over the chain. The way to handle these parameters in every stage of the production was explained in order that the technicians can achieve a better quality and also very important, keep a standardized level of operation. How to use and understand different specs and standards was also shown, along the use of different equipment from different manufacturers.
Several questions were answered in a very clear and easy explanation that even the untrained tech person could understand without making it heavy for the most experienced ones.
We are most thankful to our speakers, Vari International's Adrian Zamudio and Hugo PatiƱo, who are always supporting our section's activities, to Dolby Laboratories for sharing with us this interesting conference and to ARTeria SGAE Mexico for lending us their premises.
