On April 12th, the AES SCAD Student Section met at Adler Hall for an Immersive Audio Crash-Course. The meeting started with announcements on upcoming events and opportunities for students in AES before launching into a short lecture on the history and state of the art of immersive audio, ambisonics, binaural audio, HRTFs, Dolby Atmos, etc.
Following the lecture, we listened to examples of binaural and ambisonic audio through AudioMovers and everyone bringing their smartphones and headphones. Then, Miguel Concha led an interactive sound design demonstration using DearVR pro to create binaural sound narratives. At the end of the session, we dove into Reaper to show some more Ambisonics recordings and did a quick walk-through on how to use the IEM Plugin Suite.
