Other business or activities at the meeting: We had a brief introduction announcing that we will be doing listening parties at future AES meetings, and reminded students that the AES Student Recording Competition and AES Educational Foundation opportunities are happening this spring. Then, we dived into Dolby Atmos with Ceri Thomas for the remainder of the meeting.

Summary

For our January meeting, our AES section invited Ceri Thomas from Dolby Laboratories to speak to us about Dolby Atmos. Thomas shared with us the history of Atmos, from the first theatre to at home setups. We discussed the future of sound and advice for succeeding in the field, as well as the next steps we should take as sound design students once we graduate. Through inspiring discussions and an interactive Q&A, Ceri Thomas' visit with the AES SCAD Student Section lead to passionate discussions about sound between him, the students, and the professors.
