"In the Mix" Online Panel/Event

Industry veterans Ann Mincieli and Gloria Kaba will discuss behind the scenes recording and mix sessions, how to craft the perfect sonic approach for a mix. The discussion will include techniques and gear preferences. Moderated by mix engineer and AES NY Section Chair Angela Piva.
Ann Mincieli
Ann Mincieli is a renowned Engineer, Mixer, Collaborator and Album Project Manager for Alicia Keys. The 2x GRAMMY winner has worked with some of music's biggest acts including Mariah Carey and Jay-Z, among others. Mincieli is the owner of Jungle City Studios, which is one of New York's most elegant and best equipped recording facilities in the world. As a prominent leader in the music industry, Mincieli has been at the forefront of the movement to restore Manhattan to its former prestige as one of the world's top recording destinations.
The versatility of Mincieli's talents seamlessly bridge both the creative and business entities of music. Throughout her career, she has continued to represent the best of both worlds by understanding the business, tech and strategy components of the industry. Her collaboration with 15x Grammy Award-winning artist/songwriter/musician/producer, Alicia Keys is one example of that. Together, Keys & Mincieli have cultivated an indelible creative synergy that has permeated a partnership beyond the studio. Along with Jody Gerson & Sam Kirby, they have formed the She is the Music (SITM) initiative. A first-of-its-kind collaboration spanning the music industry, SITM is powered by creators, publishers, record labels, talent agencies, industry groups, media companies, streaming services, with the goal of creating change for women and building an equal future for music.
Gloria Kaba
Gloria Kaba is a Ghanaian-American sound engineer, mixer, producer and songwriter. Her work spans multiple genres and artists including Madonna, Beyoncé, Jack White, Solange, and Frank Ocean. Her notable projects include work on A Tribe Called Quest's final album We Got It From Here...Thank You For Your Service and Solange's breakthrough release, A Seat At The Table. For this, Gloria worked closely with legendary hip-hop artist and producer Q-Tip.
She began her career as an intern at Battery Studios, and later as an assistant engineer at MSR Studios. While there, she spent six years working with a host of engineers and producers, expanding her knowledge of the industry tenfold.
Gloria now focuses mainly on producing and mixing, most recently working with acts like Ms. Lauryn Hill, LOONY, Amber Mark and Molly Burch, while writing with rising stars KAINA, Ness Heads and Rahh. Her passion to nurture emerging talent is evident in her "Listen-In" series where she gives feedback to emerging artists. She also started an NYC-based writing camp for aspiring producers and songwriters called "Locked-In". Her combined experience and commitment to create platforms for future talent guarantee an influence on the ever-evolving music landscape for many years to come.
Angela Piva - Audio/Mix Engineer & Producer
Angela Piva, music industry ace, highly skilled in all aspects of music/audio production, recording, mixing and mastering with over 30 years of professional audio engineering experience and accolades. Recognized by several Grammy award nominations from NARAS as well as RIAA multi-platinum sales and awards for many projects both past and present. Angela is currently a member of the Audio and Music Production Staff & Faculty at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, Brooklyn College CUNY located at the Steiner Studios film lot in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Recently elected Chair of the Audio Engineering Society NY Section, interviewed frequently over the years for a variety of articles, books, press and a popular guest speaker at many industry events, Angela is also noted for being one of the few successful women recording engineer/mixers in the business and is featured in the Russell Simmons documentary "The Show".Credits include: Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Run DMC, Ronnie Spector, Groove Theory, Mary J Blige, Color Me Badd, Heavy D, Christopher Williams, Next, Pat Benatar, Foxy Brown, Shabba Ranks, Ghostface Killah, Zhane, Rita Wilson.
