UMass Lowell's student AES Chapter went on a trip to Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, ME. The students accompanied by UMass Lowell lecturer Dr. Brandon Vaccaro received a personal tour from Grammy Winning engineer Adam Ayan, an alumni of UMass Lowell. Adam took the group on a tour of all the facilities, stopping at each one to explain exactly what each room was built for, and it's capabilities.
Adam was extremely kind to answer questions ranging from life in the business working with major labels down to signal flow and processing.
In Adam's personal studio the students were able to listen to a few productions Adam had currently worked on. They were also able to listen to a piece before and after mastering in order for the students to critically and analytically listen to the differences between the two, as well as to appreciate the creative insight that Adam puts into all the work he does.
