Meeting Location: Acoustics Research Institute, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Wohllebengasse 12-14, Vienna, Austria
The demand for the ultimate sound quality has been around since the very first days of sound recording. The lecture covered the wide range of topics from the basics of human hearing and the idea of sound quality, to new insights concerning the process of spatial hearing and finally to innovative methods of sound reproduction.
Key issues focussed on the questions:
How does expectation influence the individual sound impression?
What is the influence of the reproduction room on possible illusions in sound reproduction?
Is there a universal spatial audio format?
Finally Prof. Brandenburg outlined the principles of MPEG —H, enabling 3D audio in all variants (channels , objects, ambisonics, reproduction over headphone and speakers)
