The Audio Engineering Society Section Colombia developed the AES National Student Recording Competition during the month of October. Within the qualifying phase and the recording competition over 60 students, from different institutions, presented their recordings. The universities that participated were the Javeriana University, St. Buenaventura University and Andes University. For this occasion, the prizes that were collected are priced over US$10,000. The sponsors for this competition were Metric Halo, Instituto Ene Audio, Boutique Pro Audio, AVID, Aqstica Ltda, C1 Mastering, Cloud Microphones, AVCOM, Placid Audio, Sound Logics, Aphex, Mix Factory, VCR Ltda, and 12 Gauge Microphones.
Four Categories were presented: Traditional Acoustic Recording, Traditional Studio Recording, Modern Studio Recording, and Video Broadcastingand Sound for Visual Media. The jury members were some of the most renowned engineers of our country. The members who qualified students at all instances of the contest were Mauricio Ardila, Marcela Zorro, Mauricio Cano, Eduardo de Narváez, Carlos Silva, Andrés Landínez, Matthias Krieger, Nicolás Rodríguez, Fabio Nicholls, Ricardo Escallón y Daniel "El Gato" Garcés.
Given the outcome of the call for recordings and the increase in the level of the student projects, taking as reference the results of the 4th Latin American Conference in 2010, the committee has decided to hold Student Recording Competition every year.
