Summary

Whether it's an action film that keeps you on the edge of your seat or a favorite song that transports you to a time long past, entertainment is an integral and emotional part of our lives. The master recordings, whether film, video or sound, are precious assets. Iron Mountain's Film and Sound Archiving has been successfully preserving these assets for over 50 years.

Media Consultant Barry Cardinael from Iron Mountain's Film and Sound Division described the development of modern media archives and his career in this area. Further discussion focused on proper media for archiving, magnetic tape storage do's and don'ts, and documentation. In an industry where remixes, remasters, and re-runs play a heavy role, proper documentation and storage are vital.
