Ioan Allen joined Dolby Laboratories in 1969 and was in large part responsible for the origination and development of the Dolby Stereo film program.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES); he is active in U.S. and world standards organizations.
Mr. Allen received the 1985 Samuel L. Warner Award, given by the SMPTE for contributions to motion picture sound and in 2014 was awarded the Progress Medal.
In 2009 he received the AES Silver Medal Award, and in 2017 he was awarded two Lifetime Achievement Awards, one from ICTA and the other from the CTC (UK).
Mr. Allen has received five Scientific and Engineering Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including an Oscar.
