Thomas Görne

Thomas Görne graduated in Electrical Engineering with a major in Acoustics from TU Berlin. He started working as a freelance live sound engineer, and as an ADR, Foley and re-recording mixer with several film post production companies. Parallel to this he was research assistant at TU Berlin and at Potsdam University, working on artificial neural networks and on musical acoustics.
In 2004, Thomas was appointed to a professorship at Detmold University of Music, and later became head of Detmold’s Tonmeister education. Since 2008 he is Professor at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) and head of HAW’s Sound Lab. His main research interests include immersive audio and the emotional impact of sound.
Thomas is author of five textbooks on audio engineering, including "Mikrofone - Theorie und Praxis" (Elektor 1994/2007, currently in the 9th edition), and "Tontechnik" ("Sound Engineering", Hanser 2006, currently in the 4th edition). His last book "Sounddesign - Klang, Wahrnehmung, Emotion" ("Sound Design - Sound, Perception, Emotion") on sound for film was published by Hanser in June 2017.
Thomas is AES Member since 1991, Member of VDT and DEGA, Audio Expert at Germany’s National Accreditation Body (DAkkS), and Founder and Faculty Advisor of AES Hamburg Student Section. Since 2017, he is Vice President of the AES for Central Europe Region.
