Jordie Shier

Jordie Shier recently completed a B.Sc in Combined Computer Science and Music at the University of Victoria. During his four years in Victoria he spent time studying composition and electronic music with Dániel Biró, Christopher Butterfield and Andrew Schloss, as well as audio engineering with Kirk McNally. His passion lies in the area of electronic music composition and performance which has included work with Ableton Live, Max/MSP, modular synthesizers, and hyper instruments. Another area of focus during his time at University of Victoria was in the research and development of music technology. He was the 2016/17 recipient of the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award for his research into the computational analysis of percussion sounds. This work has lead to further related research with Kirk McNally and George Tzanetakis resulting in two upcoming conference publications in the growing field of music information retrieval and intelligent music production. Currently Jordie is living in Calgary, AB where he is working on a live electronic music project with drummer Carson Gant called Napoleon Skywalker. They were recently awarded a masterclass residency at the National Music Centre in Calgary with Canadian electronic musician Richie Hawtin.
