Summary

On March 31st, the SWC Student Officers traveled to Los Angeles for a whole day of exploring the area. We visited a couple of video game companies, trying to score a tour of their recording studios. However, our main focus was to attend the AES LA Chapter meeting in which it featured Oscar nominees/winning engineers. We informed our members about our positive experience at this meeting, emphasizing how we learned a lot about audio and how it serves a big role in films. In addition, we invited our members to attend the next LA meeting which is set to feature Grammy related topics.

For our Podcast Intro Song we had a total of five entries. We listened to all five of them, keeping the artist information anonymous at the moment. We ranked them from one to ten, one being the lowest and added the total from each listener in order to pick a winner. We were very pleased with our entries and enjoyed seeing our members participate. Although we may not rate them as a group often, we still hope our members keep sending their creative works for future podcasts.

We are very excited for our next meeting since we are having two guest speakers. David Scheirman, the AES Vice President for the Western Region (USA/Canada) and Ken Freeman, a Business Development Manager and Harman Professional. Our members will have priority and get no entry fee, unlike non-members who will be charged. We hope this encourages non-members to see the benefits of membership.

In regards to the 139th AES Convention, we are in a good direction in terms of planning. A lot of our members have already paid for their flight tickets and we are now working on housing accommodations. We are six months early but the excitement is strong with this student section.
