Surround Live! Is the first ever, comprehensive event devoted exclusively to the creation, production and reproduction of live performance audio in multi-channel surround.
Offered as a one-day interactive workshop, on Thursday, October 9, 2003 in conjunction with the 115th Audio Engineering Society Convention in New York City, Surround Live! will take place at the Manhattan Center Studios complexs Grand Ballroom.
Surround Live! will bring together working professionals from the Tour Sound, Broadway Theater, Broadcast and Recording Industries to discuss the issues and technological challenges created by presenting music, drama, and theater in full multichannel surround audio formats to an audience.
Combining formal presentations with an interactive workshop and live/pre-recorded performances, attendees will be able to experience the process of creating and presenting multi-channel audio for a variety of live applications, and how this differs from the processes associated with multi-channel work done in a post-production environment.
A full 5.1 channel large-scale tour sound system will be in place, along with a 56 input digital surround capable console, and an array of signal processing and reverberation technology. There will also be a wide range of wired and wireless microphones for use in the workshop. A live performance will be an integral part of the event.
Anyone who is involved in performance audio, multi-channel sound, or is interested in how the two combine, is invited to attend. One of the main themes of the event is how immersing the audience in the sound field and keeping them closer to the sound system can help reduce overall SPL and improve the experience for both audience members and performers.
