Meeting of SC-02-08 in Barcelona, 2005-05-27

Report of the meeting of the SC-02-08 working group on audio-file transfer and exchange of the SC-02 Subcommittee on Network and File transfer of audio, held in Barcelona, Spain 2005-05-27.

The meeting was convened by chair M. Yonge.

The agenda and the report of the previous meeting, held in San Francisco, 2004-10-27, were approved without comment

AES31-1-R: Review of AES31-1-2001: AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Part 1: Disk format.
No action was requested or required

AES31-3-R: Review of AES31-3-1999, AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Part 3: Simple project interchange. including maintenance of annex F.
A revised draft was circulated. Minor editorial changes were made. A PWD will be prepared by Yonge.

AES46-R: Review of AES46-2002: AES standard for network and file transfer of audio - Audio-file transfer and exchange - Radio traffic audio delivery extension to the broadcast-wave-file format

Development Projects

AES-X066: File format for transferring digital audio data between systems of different type and manufacture
A revised draft was discussed. More writing work is required. A task group will meet to resolve some drafting details. [Task Group SC-02-08-C met during the Convention and a revised PTD will be posted soon.]

AES-X068: A format for passing edited digital audio between systems of different type and manufacture that is based on object oriented computer techniques

AES-X149: Format and recommend usage of the direct stream digital interchange file format (DSDIFF)
The PTD was discussed. Unfortunately, the author was unable to be present. The meeting felt unable to comment in detail on this draft which. However, it was recognised that the draft was already well developed and is understood to be in field use. In order to stimulate expert input, it was felt that it should be developed as a Trial Use standard in the first instance.

Liaisons

EBU. Our liaison with EBU P/AGA continues actively.

DVD Forum. J. Yoshio presented a progress report from the DVD Association on the development of DVD for professional audio. His powerpoint presentation has since been uploaded to the document site.

New Projects

A new project was discussed to complement AES-X066 and specify a format for multi-channel audio files. Potential candidates include RF64, proposed by the EBU.

There was no new business

The next meeting is scheduled to take place in conjunction with the AES118th Convention in New York, NY., US., in October 2005.
