A New Type of FIR Filters with High Resolution at Low Frequencies

Document Thumbnail

A new approximation method of FIR filters with long impulse responses is presented. The respective filters are called stepped FIR filters (SFIR filters) and combine the advantages of both FIR and IIR filter types. The SFIR filters approximate impulse responses with window lengths in the order of several 100ms. Realizations on standard DSPs require only low computational power.
