Evaluation of Digital Systems and Digital Recordings Using Real-Time Audio Data

A statistical method of error identification in digital systems and recordings is described, where it is shown that following short-term averaging, the microstructure of a PDF is a sensitive performance indicator. A real-time measurement system is described, and results obtained from a number of commercial CDs are presented to demonstrate errors on existing recordings.
