The reactive nature of loudspeaker loads and the random distribution of musical signals establish constraints on the design of Class B audio amplifiers. How extreme is the peak and average dissipation in actual use? Analysis of the load and signal characteristics clarifies the actual design requirements. Experimental results are given for both simulation of loudspeaker impedances, and for measurements on loudspeakers driven with music.
