This attenuator approach features an optically encoded position-sensing slider with digital output for controlling amplifier gain. The slider incocporates a uniquely patterned moving shutter, no moving electrical contacts or parts, for quiet operation and long life. The optical sensing of position can be easily programmed to any attenuation curve or sequence of events and outputted through microprocessing interface or directly to a digital-to-analog converter and a voltage-controlled amplifier.
