A Two-Channel Transaural Reproduction System in a Compact Single Box with Back-to-Back Speaker Drivers

Document Thumbnail

This study introduces a novel back-to-back transaural (BB) reproduction system, aimed at enhancing the immersive audio experience for games and VR/AR applications. Utilizing a unique transaural reproduction scheme, the system positions two compact loudspeakers back-to-back. Building upon the foundational principles of the Stereo Dipole (SD) system, the BB system further capitalizes on the directivity of loudspeaker drivers to minimize crosstalk more effectively and significantly reduce the low-frequency load on the control filter. This optimization results in an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to the SD system. Comparative analysis between the BB and SD system, under various setup conditions including changes in listener orientation, has demonstrated that the BB system not only maintains performance equivalent to the SD system but also achieves a more compact design and robust transaural reproduction.
