User Preference Evaluation of Direct-to-Reverberant Ratio of Virtual Ambisonic Listening Spaces

This paper presents an experiment exploring user preferences of direct-to-reverberant sound energy ratio (DRR) of virtual Ambisonic listening spaces in relation to different types of reverberation and different Ambisonic audio content. Reverberant filters were obtained using simulated and measured BRIRs, while anechoic filters were calculated using the state-of-the-art MagLS method. Based on the collected responses, participants were likely choosing between the balanced DRR value, providing a mix of anechoic and reverberant sound, and entirely anechoic rendering. This suggests that such a hybrid approach might provide a plausible alternative to the established anechoic rendering.
