In this paper, we describe the implementation of a music production and recording course in which students researched and analyzed different historical, stylistic, and technological aspects that define the evolution of record productions from the perspective of the album as an aesthetic concept. Such course was divided into two stages: (1) Students researched the historical meaning of albums in their music collections and privately-owned material in order to learn about basic terms and concepts (timbre, sonority, etc.) that they could use to analyze, discuss, and understand these processes and apply them to other historical periods and styles of music production. (2) Subsequently, they applied these concepts, approaches, and perspectives (analyzing their favorite productions and the most important producers of every decade) to their own work to replicate the technical- aesthetic elements of key productions and their protagonists, which will inspire their conceptions of art and sound.
