The methods of integrating acoustics into university audio curricula are quite varied. Some institutions have no dedicated class. Some institutions require a course in another department (i.e. Engineering or Physics). Others have a dedicated course in the audio curriculum, and a few institutions have more than one relevant course in the audio curriculum. Most cover the nature of sound waves and vibration, sound propagation, room acoustics, sound level, and its measurement. Some courses cover musical instrument acoustics and the various historical tuning systems. Institutions with more than one acoustics-related course typically include in-depth study of psychoacoustics. The paper includes an annotated bibliography that lists textbooks commonly used and the content areas they focus on.
