Abstract: The solid-body electric bass has long been established as a staple in jazz and popular music. This investigation examines the resonant characteristics of the headstock. Sine sweep techniques are employed to extract resonant characteristics from the headstock and compares these with those of the plucked open strings. It was found that there appears to be a correlation between the integrity of the open string resonances in the headstock with the output sound quality of the instrument.
