Audio Transport over HDMI

Document Thumbnail

Since its introduction in 2003 HDMI has come to dominate static (mains powered) audio-visual consumer electronics around the world. However, during its short life, the HDMI standard has undergone 5 significant and several minor version changes, nearly all of which affect the exact ways in which digital audio may be transported over the interface. This paper looks at the evolution of HDMI over the past 8 years with particular regard to audio and explores some of the truths and myths regarding the absolute audio quality that may be achieved when using the interface in commercial products.
