The Applications and Challenges of Processing Audio over Bluetooth

Document Thumbnail

Bluetooth enabled devices that stream audio are becoming increasingly popular. The expectation has advanced from the link being a simple cable replacement. Additional features such as acoustic echo canceller, noise removal, automatic gain compensation and music codecs are key components of the audio processing system. However, enhancing audio using a low MIPS, small memory processor is very difficult. Furthermore, the handling of irregular data over a wireless link causes additional problems. A summary of the challenges faced using wireless audio connections over Bluetooth is presented along with a description of the algorithms used to improve the audio at both ends of a link.
