Digital Radio has revitalized the stagnant radio market in the UK. Some listeners are buying digital radios to hear the extra channels now available. Features including an Electronic Programme Guide, live programme text and relevant travel information will increase the value of digital radio for the consumer. Currently there are some challenges from transmitter coverage and radio spectrum that, if overcome, will improve the listening experience. The DAB market is still in its infancy and is starting to mature as more listeners move to digital radio. The broadcasters and radio manufacturers cannot resolve the challenges on their own; assistance from governments and regulatory bodies is needed too.
