Convergence Propels Background Music into the Foreground

Document Thumbnail

The rapid adoption of commercial hard-disk music players enabled hospitality venues to play original-artist music of high quality which could be accurately themed according to the time of day. Why did these players become instantly popular following their introduction in 1998 whereas domestic hard-disk players (available from the same time) took another 6 years to reach a wide market? Companies developing user interfaces for domestic hard-disk music players and music download websites can benefit from the experience of the highly critical background and foreground music industry.
