Right Content—Wrong Room: Networking Is Coming Home

Document Thumbnail

Caching multimedia content in the home, whether using a personal video recorder (PVR) or broadband enabled PC, is no longer just the pursuit of the technically brave early adopter. However, the mass market is far less tolerant to technology limiting foibles and naturally expects this promised flexibility to be available wherever they are in their home. Until recently, limitations in bandwidth, quality-of-service assurances and content rights management (not to forget simple configuration and installation) have hampered the true emergence of the “home media sever”. This paper discusses recent technology advances paving the way to this new family of products.
