Abstract: In this paper a computer-based system for representing Jeongganbo, the Korean traditional music notation system, is introduced. The system consists of an XML Document Type Definition, an editor application, and a converter into MusicXML. All information of Jeongganbo, including notes, directions, playing techniques, and lyrics, are encoded into XML using the grammar of the proposed Document Type Definition. In addition, users can create and edit Jeongganbo XML files using the proposed editor and export them as a MusicXML file. As a result, users can represent, edit, and share the musical content of Korean traditional music in the digital domain, as well as analyze score-based content for information retrieval.
