Abstract: The demands imposed on a sound effects system by modern theatrical practice have largely escaped attention by those designing or specifying such equipment, resulting in a widespread distrust of audio equipment among users in the educational, community and professional theater. The author will explore performance criteria which are essential for electroacoustical systems to be compatible with the theater experience.
