Abstract: Headphone rendering of sound fields represented by Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) is greatly facilitated by the binaural synthesis of virtual loudspeakers. Individualized head-related transfer function (HRTF) sets corresponding to the spatial positions of the virtual loudspeakers are used in conjunction with head-tracking to achieve the externalization of the sound event. We investigate the localization accuracy for HOA representations of limited spatial resolution using individualized and generic HRTF sets.
