Jorge Azama is a peruvian professional, graduated with honors in 1998 from the Instituto Superior Tecnologico Orson Welles from Lima, Peru, with a Technical Degree in Sound Engineering. AES Member since 2003, and founding member of the AES Peru Section in 2004, participating in a very active way in his Section since then. He was the Chair of the 2019 AES Latin American Conference (AES LAC), that took place with great success in Lima - Peru, from September 16th to 18th, 2019. Because of that, was granted with the AES Board of Governors Award in 2020.
His career as Recording, Mixing and Live Sound Engineer includes several works with many renowned peruvian and international artists like Eva Ayllon, Peru Negro (both nominated to the Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards), Cecilia Barraza, Indigo, Theremyn_4, Radio Criminal, Coro Voces del Sol, Resplandor, Rolovo, The Peruvian National Symphonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Society of Lima, Entre Rios (Argentina), L´artica (Spain), Robin Guthrie (Scotland), Loveliescrushing (USA), Mouse On Mars (Germany), Sunu Africa (Senegal), and many others.
He also has developed his career in the education field, as Professor at the Instituto Superior Tecnologico Orson Welles (since 2001, in their Sound Engineering and Music Production Technical Programs), the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas — UPC (since 2015, in their Music Production Program, as part of the Contemporary Arts Faculty), and the Universidad Da Vinci de Guatemala (since 2022, in their Music Production Program). Also, has participated, as speaker, in several educational events such as AES Latin American and National Conferences in Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brasil, Panama, Haiti, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Honduras, Spain and the United States, and collaborated with pro-audio related articles for printed and online publications like Sound:check (Mexico), PC World (Peru) and Sonos Magazine (Peru).
Elected as AES Regional Vice-President for Latin America, in the 2022/23 term.
