February 10, 2022 at 6:30 pm

Location: Zoom Event (see link below)

Moderated by: Prof. Michael Fleming, Dept. of Recording Industry

Speaker(s): Douglas Mitchell, San Francisco Opera

Douglas Mitchell is the Master Audio/Video Engineer for the San Francisco Opera. Before joining the San Francisco Opera Sound Department in 2001, he worked on numerous films and corporate events as a member of I.A.T.S.E Local 16.  Originally from Santa Rosa, Ca, Doug grew up in the industry as his father owned a Lighting and Sound company.

The San Francisco Opera recently completed a major upgrade to its technical systems, integrating its live, broadcast and post-production capabilities in a 96 kHz AoIP infrastructure at the 3,000-seat War Memorial Opera House.  Mitchell will discuss the underlying technology, its normal operation and how the Opera maintained audience engagement during the pandemic shutdown through streaming and unique live events.
