Meeting Topic: PVC Speaker Building Party
Moderator Name: Andrew Christian, Eric Mitchell, Andrew Pyzdek, Christopher Payne
Speaker Name: Christopher Barber - Acoustics Professor of Pennsylvania State University, AES PSU Co-Advisor
Meeting Location: 314 Hammond Building, University Park, PA 16802
During our PVC speaker building party, we help students of both undergraduate and graduate majors construct and create loudspeakers made from PVC which include a passive crossover, a tweeter and midrange woofer for each loud speaker ordered, and an amplifier available on request. We gave a presentation on the basics of circuit design, as well as the theory of crossovers and accurate frequency response. During the event, each member was responsible for soldering together a crossover, drilling holes in the PVC for speaker mounts, screwing in each speaker to its mounts, and soldering together the speakers, crossover points, and 5-way binding post terminals.
