Summary

The meeting on March 11, 2024 started with CRAS students welcoming new AES president, Koen Schultz. He started the meeting with weekly introduction questions with the attendees. This meeting had 2 questions which were, "What was your inspiration to come to CRAS and how long have you been involved with audio"? The meeting continued with the introduction of AES office holders. The current AES board consists of:
Koen Schultz - President
Kevin Reyna - Vice President
Leah Won & Kai Rocke - Secretary
Kiara Lewis & Nat Marquez - Techs
Once introductions were handled, speakers, Koen and Kevin, explained the purpose of AES and the benefits of having a membership. Student discounts and pricing were also brought up.

CRAS will be holding an event with Warm Audio on March 14, 2024. CRAS will also be hosting community night on March 16, 2024. Community night is an event where students and staff have the opportunity to perform or hangout outside of the academic setting. It was also announced that a masterclass on phase issues will be held on March 31, 2024. Unphaze The Haze will be held over Zoom because the speakers are from another country.

Then a vote was held for potential AES Spotlight topics at the next meeting. The options included loudness, audio coding, high resolution audio and music production for emerging audio formats. The winning topic was music production for emerging audio formats. The cutting edge topic for this week's meeting involved the use of AI (artificial intelligence) in the audio industry. It included topics such as AI mastering and plugins that use AI. The attendees and board members continued with a discussion on the use of AI in the audio industry. Many brought up the pros and cons of getting AI involved. Some argued that AI would be a great tool to help with the technical and creative process, while others argued that the "human" aspect in the creative process would slowly be diminished.

The president and VP later moved on to explaining what subgroups are and how to create one. Currently, active subgroups at CRAS include music creation/songwriting, jammers and sound design. The CRAS Mentors group was created to connect students with upper cycle students for academic help. It is currently being run by CRAS teacher, Brandon Valfre. Women of Audio is a group that focuses on women in the audio industry and is currently being run by CRAS teacher, Nancy Sharlau-Murman.

The President and VP went over the procedure and rules for the sound design contest. The plugin of the week is called Xfer OTT Compressor, which has been popular among EDM producers and artists. To end the meeting, a new group at CRAS was announced. There will soon be a live radio show at CRAS. Music created by students and other artists will be played on the show.
