The AES Latin American Conference, AES LAC Quito 2023, served as the epicenter for the dissemination of audio science in the region, and Argentina left an indelible mark on this event. Both Argentine professionals and students played prominent roles throughout the conference.
On the first day, Ezequiel Morfi, former Vice Chair of the AES LATAM Education Committee, served as a judge in Category III of the Student Recording Competition, and Francisco Bissone did the same for Category IV. Additionally, students David Joya and Marko Khipo from the AES-AURAL Student Section successfully presented their work in Categories IV and V, respectively. These achievements are a testament to the quality of our future professionals in the fields of sound design and remixing.
The Immersive Audio Room, just like in the previous edition in Buenos Aires 2022, attracted an eager audience eager to learn about this discipline. The interventions by Argentine professionals generated overwhelming interest and filled the room on every occasion.
Francisco Bissone kicked off Argentina's participation in AES LAC with his masterclass on "Workflow in Post-Production with Dolby Atmos," offering a solid theoretical and practical foundation in the context of contemporary audiovisual production.
On Wednesday, September 21st, the Immersive Audio Room welcomed Fernando Richard, Faculty Advisor of the AES-EMC Student Section, who spoke about "Music Mixing in Dolby Atmos." On the same day, Ezequiel Morfi and José "Chore" Orea (Mexico) delivered a talk to a packed Auditorium A, exploring different mixing approaches.
The crowning moment of Argentina's participation was led by Iván Markovic, the Past President, who, with the support of Sound Dogs, lectured in the Immersive Audio Room on "Sound Design and Immersive Audio," sparking an engaging exchange with the audience.
It's worth noting that all Argentine representatives also took part in the Latin American Section Plenary, a fruitful and promising experience that will bring us together again in the next edition in 2024. Argentina showcased its excellence in the field of audio at AES LAC Quito 2023.
