Summary

After troubleshooting the projector and its zoom setting, Malcolm begins the meeting by gathering the crowd's attention and hitting the gavel. He welcomes the crowd to the Monday night meeting and begins the slideshow.

Malcolm starts by introducing AES, and how it is an international organization that unites audio engineers, artists, scientists, and students to promote advances in audio. He then mentions that the AES standards committee is the section of the greater AES community that is responsible for setting the standards for professional-grade audio equipment in the industry. Malcolm then shows the member benefits of AES, such as booths at events, special AES member-only events, new news on equipment, sound design techniques, and more. Malcolm also mentions the AES career resources and discounts that being a member offers. He mentions how his previous job in insurance was boring and now that Malcolm is in the AES community he has been able to access great informational resources in the industry that he is interested in. Then he mentioned that attending the CRAS AES meetings is free, and we went over the student rate and discounts for being a paid member, starting at 50 dollars a year, and going up 25 dollars a year to $125.

Moving the slideshow on, Malcolm goes over the CRAS events that are happening soon! Mentioning the CRAS Grad Panel that is happening on Friday, July 14th featuring Erika Koski, a Post-production, video game audio engineer, and a foley artist. Chance Hubbard, an audio engineer for Internet Money as well as Matt Trenhaile who is the lead engineer for Lil Yachty's record label 'Concrete'. Malcolm then expresses the importance of attending these events connecting with former CRAS students and building connections in the industry. He then moves on to the RODE Microphones takeover that is happening! The takeover is going to be held in the Gilbert Studio C Live Room which will hold a raffle and numerous demos. Then he mentioned that Rick Allen and Ryan White are going to be doing a RODE-sponsored horror movie sound effects foley session that same night. Malcolm then mentions the future raffle for the Warm Audio WA73-EQ Mic pre that will be happening at CRAS and how we will be working out the final details soon.

Moving to the next slide Malcolm brings up the introductions slide and asks the group their names, cycle, and "What is your favorite audio-based YouTube channel, podcast, or similar?" The group answers the questions above with varying responses such as EnginEars, Mix with the Masters, Rob Scallon, Kenny Beats, the Dissect Podcast, old concert videos, Andrew Huang, and Busy Works Beats.

Moving the slideshow to the next slide, Malcolm introduces the CRAS AES Sample Flip Challenge! He says that it is a new thing that the CRAS AES Student Chapter is doing to encourage some audio creativity, and some show and tell in the Monday night meetings. He says that Sol handpicks some samples every cycle for everyone to manipulate to their liking. The board then plays off their submissions, Sol made a beat, Malcolm made a spaceship texture, and CJ and a minute-long audio file containing numerous different creations. Sol then demos the new samples for this cycle, a vinyl crackle, a dj scratchback, and a weird vocal sample, and then encourages everyone to make something cool!

Malcolm then mentions the board contact info, announcing that Bea has served her term as the CRAS AES president to a round of applause. Moving swiftly onto the CRAS mentor program, mentioning that there are Cycle-specific study groups that are held by the mentors to assist students with anything they may need help with. Also going to say that the mentors offer 1 on 1 help available to be connected to through CRAS Connect. Malcolm then says how important it is to ask for help, and how its not a bad thing to ask for help.

Malcolm then introduces the CRAS AES subgroups and says that it's the closet thing CRAS has to clubs and that all you need to start a subgroup is 3 people who are interested in the same topic, starting off by introducing the EDM Production subgroup, Sol introduces that his subgroup is all about sharing and producing EDM music and learning new techniques. Mentioning that they meeting every Tuesday night in room 103. Moving onto Mikey's Jammin subgroup, Mikey explains that due to the cycle 11 workload, it has been more oriented into a mixing session of all of the numerous sessions from the last few months. Star then introduces his sound design subgroup and how he provides knowledge on how to make beats, design drums, and synths, and remove people's reliance on Splice because you cannot copyright the sounds in your song if you use Splice samples. Bea then introduces her Guitar and Bass subgroup and that they meet every Wednesday to go over guitar tech, theory, lessons, and luthier work.

The final slide of the night encouraged everyone to network. Stressing the importance of networking with people, especially at AES.
