Summary

CRAS Students met for their weekly AES meeting this Monday night, led by President Nolan (Cycle 11). He opened the night by expressing who/what AES is and the perks of joining and coming to these meetings. Anthony, Cycle 11 Vice President, chimed in to bring attention to the extensive AES Library, where you can learn more about the studies and innovations going on in the world of Audio paving the way to enhance the experience for everyone.

As more students trickled in the officeholders had prepared a meet & greet, allowing everyone in attendance to not only introduce themselves, but to share a video game they would like to work on, or would like to have worked on. Answers ranging from Mario to Destiny, from Just Dance to The Last of Us, from Minecraft to Dark Souls, the room resonated with the question, and were all eager to envision themselves creating for their franchises.

Next, the board shared exciting upcoming events and opportunities for networking. On 9.20.2023, CRAS will be hosting Gabriella Palomino and Women of Audio as they spearhead a global meeting, and one lucky raffle winner will be receiving a custom CRAS Blue Encore Microphone. Following this, on 10.2.2023, CRAS Graduate Zach Misino the Sr. Video Distribution Engineer of Fox in the Phoenix Valley will be returning to speak to his experience post-grad. Additionally, some exciting opportunities to create your own microphone AND guitar pedal are expected to be coming to CRAS mid-November, allowing students to not only better understand how their gear works, but to have the pride of having created their own gear.

The board went on to document the upcoming developments in the world of Pro Tools with exciting news such as a full ARA integration for Melodyne, allowing users to seamlessly utilize their work rather than going through the lengthy transfer process; Pro Tools Sketch, an unreleased yet user-friendly and high potential looping system to create a much more ideal experience for users; and Cloud Collab, allowing users worldwide to work together on their craft through means of the cloud rather than constant uploading of new versions. All of this followed the sale of AVID to a private entity, so the audio world will have eyes on this for some time.

Following these updates, the Student Section partook in some games, where they analyzed a single sound that had been highly modified and attempted to guess its origin and played a game of Kahoot to review some of the basics they have learned here.

After that, we got an inside view at Quality Control Studios in Atlanta, GA from our very own CRAS Graduate Matt Trenhaile. He showcased Studio E, boasting an array of gear like the Black Line Audio Bluey, Heritage Monitor Compressor, and the Dangerous 2 Bus Plus. Seeing into a studio across the country was significant as it is many students' end goal, and knowing what to expect not only excites but prepares students for success in their fields.

As the night came to a close, we hit on some final topics such as mental health and the support that exists all around the CRAS Campuses, some groups within AES where anyone can learn more and dive into a community of like-minded individuals, and subgroups within CRAS itself where you can not only network but develop your passion alongside your classmates. ??The meeting adjourned, yet many remained. Talking, engaging, busting out guitars, and sharing what they've written. The vibe stays present as a place of support and community. These meetings are held every Monday night on campus, and new faces are always welcome.
