Summary

For some years, blind source separation, the ability to isolate multiple sources within a soundfield using nothing but the received audio, has been perceived to be the next big thing in audio processing. Potential applications exist in broadcasting, hearing assistance, communications, voice control, speech-to-text and surveillance. This non-technical presentation outlines three possible uses of blind source separation, before asking the question, is the day of blind source separation yet to come?

This talk was given by Gordon Reid, who was educated as an Astrophysicist at Leicester University and Cambridge University. He helped to found CEDAR Audio Ltd in 1989 and over the past 34 years has presented numerous papers and workshops in the fields of audio restoration, noise suppression and forensic audio investigation. He is also an active musician and author.
