Meeting Topic: The rise of spatial audio: new mathematical tools for interactive, intelligent, environment-aware acoustics
Moderator Name: Aurelio Uncini
Speaker Name: Augusto Sarti, Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano - Italy
Meeting Location: Zoom virtual Meeting (5pm Central European Time/Italian time zone)
The Intelligent Signal Processing and Multi-Media (ISPAMM) research team of the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications of Sapienza University of Rome, together with the Italian Section of the Audio Engineering Society, organized a series of meetings on the theme: Artificial Intelligence for Sound Synthesis and Analysis.
Abstract:
After over a century of relative stagnation, the research of the last 3 decades has brought profound transformations to spatial audio, thanks to cross-contamination between disciplines as diverse as signal processing, computational geometry, computer graphics/3D vision, and artificial intelligence. In this seminar, I will outline the mathematical tools that these disciplines have provided, and how we have used them. I will discuss the impact of projective geometry on interactive acoustic modeling; plenacoustic techniques for interactive imaging and rendering of acoustic fields; new acoustic inpainting techniques, and more.
