Meeting Topic: The fork is on the table: acoustic analysis and implementation of a physical model of Rhodes electric piano
Moderator Name: Aurelio Uncini
Speaker Name: Leonardo Gabrielli, Research Fellow at the Dept. of Information Engineering, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy
Meeting Location: Zoom virtual Meeting (5pm Central European Time/Italian time zone)
The Intelligent Signal Processing and Multi-Media (ISPAMM) research team of the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications of Sapienza University of Rome, together with the Italian Section of the Audio Engineering Society, organized a series of meetings on the theme: Artificial Intelligence for Sound Synthesis and Analysis.
Abstract:
The Rhodes electric piano is an iconic instrument that has spanned 7 decades of music history. It's still wide use motivates the study of its sound production mechanism, based on asymmetric tuning forks and magnetic pickups. In this talk, we will see the recent analysis conducted in the laboratory using laser vibrometry, the role of the pickup, and the implementation of an efficient physical model on DSP. The discussion will be accompanied by software examples realized in VCV Rack and a demo on an original instrument and its digital counterpart realized in the Legend70 digital piano.
