Summary

The AES Student Section Hamburg had the wonderful opportunity to welcome students from the Capital University of Ohio on the 25th of February accompanied by their Instructor of Music, Neal Schmitt, and Assistant Professor of Music, Chad Loughrige. The Group from Ohio visited us for a day at HAW Hamburg on the Campus Finkenau during their trip to Europe.

First our Professor Thomas Görne and the tutors gave a tour of our Sound Laboratory including the Immersive Audio Lab with the 3D Audio Dome (33.2 Loudspeakers), which is also our recording studio for music, our analoge and digital mixing workstations, film mixing studio, editing room, foley recording studio and synthesizer studio. The students had the chance to look inside our Light Lab next door as well. After presenting our lab we split up into three groups working in different parts of the Lab. Film mixing, synthesizers and Mixing in Higher Order Ambisonics were the main topics. The students were then able to try out our equipment. Finally, Thomas offered the students a little Hamburg sight seeing tour so that they could see at least some parts of the city while visiting for the day. Walking from the campus downtown along the Alster (Hamburg's lake in the middle of the city), tasting "Fischbrötchen" at the scenic harbour with a view of the famous Elbphilharmonie, and sneaking into the historic Elbtunnel, a tunnel connecting the city with the other side of the river Elbe since 1911. Before the group left us for Berlin we had a final drink at Hamburg's portuguese quarter.

The day went by so fast but we were really happy to meet the wonderful people of the Capital University of Ohio and hope to see them again soon.
